The experience of fragrance varies greatly from one person to another, as well as one house to another. Our Scent Strength rating system is based on a majority interpretation of our scents. We have done our best to give you a accurate scent strength rating for every fragrance we offer. Scent is subjective, just like art. So, what may be strong to one person may be considered light to another person.

Before you look at the fragrance strength ratings below I would like to tell you about how scent travels, what affects how scents travel, and how certain scents travel and linger low to the ground and how other scents travel and linger high.

How does fragrance from a candle diffuse into the air?

When a scented candle is burned, the fragrance is released into the air through a process called volatilization. Volatilization is the process of a substance turning into a gas, and it occurs when the heat from the candle flame melts the wax and vaporizes the fragrance oils that are mixed into the wax.

As the fragrance oils vaporize, they form a plume of gas that rises from the surface of the candle. This plume is typically the most concentrated area of fragrance, as the vaporized molecules are initially confined to a small area near the flame.

As the plume rises, the fragrance molecules diffuse into the surrounding air.
